Helen Hunt was born on June 15 of the year 1963 in Culver City, California. She was the daughter of Gordon Hunt who was an acting coach and a theater director and to her mother Jane Hunt a known photographer. Helen Hunt grew up in Los Angeles and in New York and she decided to do acting at the young age of 9. She got her first acting role in the 1973 TV movie named Pioneer Woman at the age of 9. After that, she was appearing as a teenager in several TV series such as Swiss Family Robinson, Amy Prentiss, It Takes Two and The Fitzpatricks. Helen Hunt was then seen in the acclaimed medical drama called St. Elsewhere starring Paul Reiser in the sitcom Mad About you in which Helen Hunt was able to win four Emmy Awards. In the year of 1996, Helen Hunt starred in the popular hit Twister and in the year 1997 she won the Best Actress Academy award for the movie As Good As It Gets. Aside from those roles, she made her role in the TV movie Quarterback Princess in the year 1983 portraying the role of a school girl having the goal on being the leader at their school’s all- male football team.

Helen Hunt made her starring role in the movie Rollercoaster in the year 1977. Before this movie was aired she had supporting roles in such films as Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) starring Kathleen Turner and Nicolas Cage, Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985) starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Mr. Saturday Night (1992) starring Billy Crystal and The Waterdance (1992) starring Eric Stoltz. Along with her success was her award as one of America’s best loved television couples with costar Paul Reiser.

In the year of 2001, Helen Hunt was starring alongside Woody Allen in Allen's The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, a 1940s-era detective comedy also featuring Charlize Theron and Dan Ackroyd. In the year of 2007, Helen Hunt made her directorial film debut with the movie Then She Found Me. Helen Hunt played a supporting role in the movie Soul Surfer which was a 2011 true-life story.
